Mayor Inaugurates City Administration Summer Camp, Urges Kids to Speak up
Mayor Ko Wen-je presided over the opening ceremony for the first ever City Administration Summer Camp on August 10.
Camp participants – students from elementary and junior high schools – will accompany the mayor on his daily itinerary and serve as interns at various city agencies during the three-day camp.
During his address, Ko remarked that the camp seeks to boost bilateral communication between the government and the people. By allowing students to observe what the public officials are doing, the summer camp offers them an opportunity to learn about how city government operates and invites them to provide feedback and advice.
In addition to making administrative affairs more transparent to the outside world and allowing the government to reflect upon itself, the summer program also serves the purpose of policy marketing, Ko noted.
The mayor joked that as children will not be punished for speaking their mind, he encourages the students to ask questions whenever they feel like it. He believes that the City will be able to make improvements through incorporating the fresh perspective of the youngsters.
