The riverbanks of Taipei are becoming very different this summer! The collaboration of several city agencies, the 2015 Taipei Riverside Festival will take place across several riverside areas across the city during summer weekends.

Starting with the Xikou Music and Life Festival on July 25, a series of concert will take place on weekend evenings at the Xikou wharf area of Songshan District. The concerts will be held on July 25, August 1, and August 8 between 4:30 PM and 8 PM.

Organized by the Department of Information and Tourism (TPEDOIT), the event will also feature a fair area consisting of booths by local creative businesses, farmers, social enterprises, and local markets. Street performers will also lighten up the atmosphere at the gathering.

The opening night on July 25 kicks off with a performance by the Zhiji Duet – winners from the first Golden Melody Awards – and singer Yu Guan-hua.

During both the event on July 25 and August 8, the city government will also offer participants a chance to take the river cruise for free! A total of 3 one-hour-long cruises will be available on these days (5 PM, 6 PM, and 7 PM). Only 50 passengers will be accepted on board for each cruise.

In addition, TPEDOIT will join hands with Songshan Ciyou Temple to issue a limited version of Lovers’ Lock. The item, blessed by the Goddess Matsu, can be secured by couples at the LOVE public art work display located next to the Rainbow Bridge. To acquire one of these locks, individuals can check-in at the event site next to Xikou wharf and upload a photo of the Rainbow Bridge. Only 100 locks will be handed out at each event, so hurry while supplies last!

The highlight of the Taipei Riverside Festival will take place on August 15 at the riverbank between Tamsui River Floodgate 3 to Floodgate 5. The Dadaocheng Chinese Valentine Celebration will spotlight market stalls, music, and fireworks.

TPEDOIT also reminds the public not to forget about the splash fun taking place at the Dajia Children’s Fun fair, which will last until August 31. There are many waterborne and splash-related activities to choose from, including waterborne bicycles, bumper boats, waterslides, and paddle boats.

On each Saturday in the month of August, the Sports Department will also organize a series of hands-on activities at the venue under Dazhi Bridge. Kids and adults are welcome to try out canoeing, rafting, and other waterborne recreations during the sessions.
